Are your plants killing pollinators?

A recent study sponsored by Friends of the Earth has found a high concentration of neonicotoinoid insecticides in "bee-friendly" nursery plants sold at garden centers.  A high percentage of plants sold at big box stores or garden centers supplied by regional nurseries have been pre-treated with insecticides and are toxic to bees and other pollinators.  Click here to read the entire report.

Recommendations in the report include buying organic plants or starting your own from untreated seed; asking your local garden center/nursery to offer neonicotinoid-free and organic vegetable and bedding plants (and label them as such); supporting Friends of the Earth and other local, state, and nationwide efforts to limit the use of these pesticides.
