The New Economy

If you haven't taken the New Economy course at the Leon County Extension Office, it's not too late.  The second class meets this evening, March 19, at 5:30 p.m.  Come join us for study and discussion of the latest proposals by economists and others worldwide to address population growth, the downside of peak resources, and climate fluctuations--alternatives to our consumer-driven society and economic polarization. Many propose that the solution is at the local level--and we can help.  If you can't make it to this series of classes, watch for next year's class.  You won't want to miss it.

New Economy Course Scheduled

Will Sheftall, Leon County Extension Agent for Natural Resources has scheduled a course on a New Economy.  If you would be interested in learning what a "new economy" in Tallahassee could be like, and getting in on the ground floor of creating a local Time & Skill Bank to be hosted by Transition Tallahassee.  View Flyer

There is a nominal charge of $15 for the entire course, which you can pay on-line when you register, or later.

Improving Economy Reflected in Size of New Homes

Recent census figures  reported in USA Today reflect that home buyers are once again seeking larger homes.  The report states that while the size of families is shrinking, home buyers are demanding bigger and better homes.  Even couples with no children are purchasing homes with four or more bedrooms. 

An earlier report in 2009 also in USA Today stated that buyers were snapping up smaller homes creating a boom for builders in the small home market. 

The more current large home trend reflects the improving economy as buyers continue to ignore the cost in non-renewable resources to build and maintain homes much larger than needed to live comfortably.  It is apparent that many of us are continuing to enjoy today with no thought for the future of our planet.
